Female Reproductive System
Different parts of the female reproductive system?
The female reproductive system consists of different parts that perform different functions. The most important function of the system is to produce the female egg cell that is required for reproduction. Fertilization of egg also takes place in the fallopian tubes and later the fertilized egg gets implanted in the wall of the uterus. If fertilization does not take place, menstruation or monthly bleeding occurs in women. Sex hormones are also produced that are required for performing different sexual and reproductive functions.
Parts of the female reproductive system
Different parts of the female reproductive system are:
Uterus: The uterus is the most important part. It is pear in shape and fetus develops in this part of the female reproductive system. It is divided into two parts. The lower part opens into the vagina and is called as the cervix. The main part is called the corpus and it expands to hold the developing fetus. The cervix is the passage for the flow of blood during the menstrual period and also entry of sperms.
Vagina: It is the part that joins the cervix. It is the part through which birth of the baby takes place.
Ovaries: The ovaries are the two small oval shaped glands that are present on the sides of the uterus. The ovaries are responsible for producing the female egg cells and the hormones.
Fallopian tubes: These are two narrow tubes who are attached to the upper part of the uterus. Female egg cells travel from the ovaries to the uterus through the fallopian tubes. The fertilization of an egg also takes place in the fallopian tube and the fertilized egg travels to the uterus and gets implanted on the lining of the wall of the uterus.
Menstruation is a natural process that occurs toward the end of puberty. Girls start releasing eggs as a part of monthly cycle called the menstruation. If the egg is not fertilized it burst and leaves the body through the process called as menstruation. The menstrual flow is a combination of blood and tissues. It lasts for 3-5 days. Women and girls may experience some discomfort during the menstrual cycle. The monthly cycle ranges from 28-30 days in an average adult woman. Though, it may vary from 25-35 days.
Women and girls may experience diseases of the female reproductive system if proper hygiene and care is not taken during the menstrual cycle.
